Director Selects: Chris Rountree and Wild Up on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts

By Thor Steingraber

National Public Radio’s headquarters in Washington D.C. is the home to a regular music concert, recorded and shared throughout the world. It is called “Tiny Desk Concerts” and has become one of the most popular and respected sources for new music. How thrilled was I to learn that our good friends from Wild Up are featured this week.

The L.A.-based ensemble has performed at The Soraya many times in different formats and arrangements. In addition to their own concerts, they often appear with the Martha Graham Dance Company, as they will again for Opening Night on September 30, 2023. Please enjoy this video of their Tiny Desk Concert featuring the ebullient piece by Julius Eastman that earned them a 2023 Grammy nomination.

The Soraya is very proud of its collaborations with performing artists from Los Angeles, and we enjoy sharing them with the rest of the world and witnessing their fame grow.

Gratefully,
