Since the pandemic, much of the touring typically done by major international orchestras has been curtailed. The costs and risks have been too great – if one wind or brass player comes down with COVID, then all the players are exposed. One of the few touring orchestras in 2022 that performed at The Soraya had identified local substitute players in every city, just in case. That’s a monumental undertaking and not one that most orchestras can manage. Also impacting the availability of orchestras is the end of touring for the many Russian orchestras that previously came to The Soraya. Needless to say, the war has put a stop to that, and it may be many many years before the restoration of the world order allows us to consider featuring these musicians again.
All of that aside, the plans for the 2023-24 season are nearly complete, and the CLASSICAL SERIES IS BACK with major orchestras, top-notch soloists and conductors, and some of the most beloved repertoire. We will share all the details on June 1, 2023 when qualifying Members will be invited to the first Annual Director’s Dinner for the announcement. For those who prefer not to be a Member, the complete subscription package will also be available then. It will include six concerts. The Soraya has gone to great measures to preserve this one subscription series, fashioned for those who love The Soraya best as a world-class concert hall.
In the meantime, while you await the details, I’m happy to share that one of the most beloved orchestral masterpieces will be featured in the season – Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Below is a link to a recording that will whet your appetite, and features artists who have performed at The Soraya.
