After months of silence from state and local officials about the reopening of performing arts venues, suddenly there’s a flurry of activity and a glimmer of hope. The Governor has announced that he proposes lifting the restrictive COVID tiers on June 15. Rightfully, there are certain caveats. In particular, all of the usual pandemic-related data points must continue to improve.

What does this mean for The Soraya and our audiences? Foremost, we will do everything necessary to keep our staff, artists, and audiences safe. We will follow not only the guidelines for the performing arts, but also those for higher education.
Typically, a year or more is required to plan a season and put it on sale. I’m proud to say that we have been working on our future programming plans all along, and when the right moment comes, will be ready to announce a season that opens in October 2021, assuming conditions continue to be favorable.
We remain cautiously optimistic—and encourage your patience—knowing first hand how the best-laid plans can be derailed during the uncertainty of a pandemic. Therefore, we will wait until mid-June to announce our performance plans and celebrate our return.
