CSUN Students
Backstage, onstage, and in the audience, The Soraya integrates CSUN students, faculty, staff, and alumni into every aspect of the performing arts. The Soraya’s programs leverage our diverse campus culture to enhance the educational experience and build the foundations of community in CSUN, the San Fernando Valley, and throughout Los Angeles.
Creating Belonging at The Soraya and in the Arts
Campus Engagement at The Soraya is centered on empowering and celebrating individuals from all walks of life through the presentation and original production of events and development of inclusive programs. The goal is to break the preconceived notion of “who belongs in the arts.” WE ALL DO!
Programs will ignite your inner artist through one-of-a-kind experiences that allow you to directly connect with staff and artists, whether it’s in a pre-concert courtyard performance, student Master Class, student matinee, rental, or post-concert lobby signing with the artists.
In the Words of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, “Nobody can take away the dances you’ve already had.” With our Campus Engagement program, we hope that you see yourself in the arts and, more importantly, that you take this dance with us to enrich and welcome others.

GET IN TOUCH
Engage in The Soraya’s programs through special events, curriculum inclusion, and more by contacting The Soraya’s Campus Engagement Associate, Juliana Alvarez
Juliana is a proud CSUN Alumna, Latina leader, and advocate of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. As Chair of The Soraya’s DEI Task Force, she is dedicated to creating safe spaces that provide opportunities for growth, inclusion, and transparency. Her mission is to turn everyday moments into acts of activism by amplifying the voices of underserved populations and unlocking access to higher education and the arts for ALL humans.
“Growing up, I was an outsider. I rarely had an opportunity to attend an art event or be part of the arts. I now have the privilege to make a difference for students like me, and for the greater CSUN community—by showing them that The Soraya isn’t just a venue, it is a fountain of opportunity. But more than that, this is a place where all can belong. Where all can be surrounded and supported by amazing, caring people who celebrate all who walk through the doors for exactly who they are.”
