Alumni making an impact

CSUN Alumni are some of the most impactful supporters of The Soraya, furthering our mission and securing the future of the venue.

David Nazarian (’82) arrived at CSUN shortly after his family was forced to emigrate from their home in Iran to the United States. 30 years and a successful career later, David returned to CSUN to attend a performance at the then Valley Performing Arts Center with his wife, Angela, and his parents Younes and Soraya. Shortly after his return to campus, David made a transformative gift to rename CSUN’s College of Business to the David Nazarian College of Business.

Three years later, the family would make another major gift to CSUN, this time in support of the arts to rename the venue the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts—“The Soraya” for short.

Milt and Debbie are passionate supporters of CSUN and education. Milt graduated from CSUN in 1968 and is the Chairman of the National Notary Association and President and Trustee of the National Notary Foundation. Prior to joining Milt at the National Notary Association and serving as the Foundation’s Executive Director, Debbie worked as a reporter and editor for newspapers in Pennsylvania and Los Angeles.

The pair have been vital supporters on the CSUN campus for decades, supporting both educational programs, athletics, the library, and of course, The Soraya. In 2021, Milt and Debbie Valera made a major gift to CSUN that renamed University Hall at CSUN to Valera Hall, and named The Soraya’s lobby, the Milt and Debbie Valera Lobby.
