Soraya Stories

Director Selects: Bach by Beltrami

By Thor Steingraber

We are so fortunate to live in Los Angeles where scores of top-shelf musicians live and work. Beyond those who play and sing in recording studios in Hollywood, we live amongst some of the most prolific and inventive composers. I am proud to bring one of those individuals to the Soraya next week, Marco Beltrami.

Bach has rung out in our venue in many occasions, most notably when Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center performed the Brandenburg Concertos in 2016. Next week, we welcome a fresh rendering of Bach’s Preludes, rearranged by Beltrami. The performance will feature the return of violinist Sandy Cameron who wowed audiences in 2019 with her performance of Danny Elfman’s violin concerto, Eleven Eleven. Debuting on our stage will be violinist Lucia Micarelli and The Soraya’s Artist in Residence Etienne Gara with his ensemble Delirium Musicum. This will be an auspicious occasion with new and old friends alike. Please watch this brief video interview with Beltrami and Cameron to learn more.

Gratefully,
