Diavolo | Architecture in Motion will return to The Soraya for the third time this coming season. They will bring another brand new work, and this time one that carries huge relevance and interest for our community — a piece commemorating the Northridge Earthquake, opening on the precise 30th anniversary of the catastrophic event, January 17, 2024. The piece is called Existencia.
Diavolo Artistic Director Jacques Heim is one of the most creative individuals I know. Furthermore, he has a personal relationship to the earthquake that he explains in this video interview we recently conducted in The Soraya lobby. Also in the video, you will see some photos and clips of the recent auditions at the Diavolo studio in downtown Los Angeles, where 90 extraordinarily talented performers vied for a limited number of roles in the new piece.
Together, The Soraya and Diavolo are creating this new production from the ground up, so stick with us throughout the next six months as we share aspects of the creative process and the long road between Existencia’s conception and its opening night.
