The 2024-25 season contains many exciting debut artists, foremost among them is the young American violinist Randall Goosby. Randall is a fresh artist, having emerged as a fixture with the world’s elite orchestras only since the end of the pandemic. On October 10, he will join the esteemed London Philharmonic Orchestra at The Soraya, performing an important American composition that is rarely heard and has never been performed here – Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto. I recommend that our audiences acquaint themselves with this glorious piece. There are several recordings available online, including one featuring Soraya-favorite Joshua Bell.
In the six-minute video above, Randall Goosby discusses the piece, his approach to learning new music, and his teacher Itzhak Perlman. I think you’ll be charmed by this young artist. His debut at The Soraya promises to be a memorable event.
Gratefully,

About Director Selects
The Director Selects series is a sequence of interviews shared by The Soraya on Fridays throughout the year. Each features an artist who will perform in the season or a behind-the-scenes video, and a note from Executive and Artistic Director Thor Steingraber to give patrons a look behind the curtain and better understand that collaboration between the artist and The Soraya that goes into each performance.
