Soraya Stories

Director Selects: Randy Newman Celebrates 30 Years of "Toy Story"

By Thor Steingraber

The upcoming performances of the Disney Pixar classic Toy Story represent the intersection of two Soraya favorites — on one hand, our annual presentation of a live orchestra accompanying a Disney animated film on the large screen; on the other hand, an extraordinary artist who has more recently become a friend of The Soraya, composer and songwriter Randy Newman. The weekend promises to be sheer delight for all ages, and a perfect example of what we do best.

In this recent interview, Newman recollects about composing for his first animated film 30 years ago and the creation of his greatest hit, “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”

Gratefully,
