The annual visit from the Colburn Orchestra is always a revelation, from the extraordinary talent of the young musicians to the variety of repertoire played. On many occasions, the Orchestra has been led by the familiar and beloved Esa-Pekka Salonen. On this occasion, we have an opportunity to meet a new conductor who is making a big splash internationally — Carlos Miguel Prieto. Maestro Prieto has recently appeared at the Hollywood Bowl and led his orchestra in Mexico to a Grammy nomination. He is also an ardent advocate for working with student musicians. In this video interview he speaks about this weekend‘s program, and particularly Schoenberg’s early masterpiece Pelleas and Melisande. You might find his assessment of the piece to be highly compelling…as well as his newfound interest in the Los Angeles Dodgers!
