Soraya Stories

Director Selects: Tiler Peck, from NYC principal ballerina to producer and choreographer

By Thor Steingraber

Over the coming few weeks, we’ll be sharing interviews I’ve done recently with dancemakers from The Soraya’s 2023-24 season. The Soraya’s stage has been home to some of the most important dancers and choreographers living and working today. This season is no exception, including some return artists – Diavolo and Savion Glover among them.

Making a Soraya debut is phenom Tiler Peck. The California native is the toast of New York City, a prima ballerina for New York City Ballet, and now a producer and choreographer. Her new piece “Turn it Out with Tiler Peck and Friends” took London by storm a few months ago, and we secured a spot on its West Coast tour this fall, October 28 & 29, 2023. It’s four pieces of varied styles and techniques performed by a cast of all-star dancers. I spoke to Tiler from New York recently. She had so many things to share, that we couldn’t cut the video to be any shorter. Listen to all 8 minutes of her story – from dancer to producer, surviving injury, and “turning lemons to lemonade” during the pandemic.

We expect Tiler Peck and Friends to sell out in a jiffy. Here’s how to get your tickets now. Group discounts are available for dance studios and similar.
