Soraya Stories

Director Selects: 2024-25 Season Recap

By Thor Steingraber

One of the things I enjoy most about The Soraya is that it is not any single person’s Soraya, but rather countless different versions. If I picked my highlights from a season, they would most certainly be different from anyone else’s. With that in mind, we compiled this video with a little bit of everything, a dizzying array of performances dating back to last September, seemingly eons ago.

Sometimes what defines a season most is what happens off stage. No doubt that the past year will be defined as much by the disastrous fires as anything else. The Soraya was on its January hiatus as we held our breath, while, for one long weekend, fires threatened the San Fernando Valley, reaching the Mulholland crest. When the smoke cleared, so many artists had lost so much, as well as some of our patrons, both in the Palisades and Altadena.

Without diminishing that widespread tragedy, a few weeks later the theater filled up again, going on to break previous attendance records, a testament to the power of the performing arts to comfort us and point to the future.

Enjoy this brief video review of the goodness and excellence of The Soraya’s 2024-25 Season.

Gratefully,
