Director Selects: Janet Eilber, the pioneering Martha Graham Dance Artistic Director

By Thor Steingraber

On Saturday, April 26 nearly 100 Los Angeles dancers will take the stage at The Soraya for LA Dances Graham100, a celebration of the centenary of the Martha Graham Dance Company. This is a monumental undertaking, the culmination of nearly 2 years of planning. The evening will include 50 years of repertoire choreographed by Graham herself, as well as some new pieces in the spirit of the Graham classic, Lamentation. In this video interview, Artistic Director Janet Eilber describes the program and its historic significance.

We are very grateful to our partners at the many Los Angeles dance and educational institutions who are part of this occasion, and particularly we are grateful for our long and robust partnership with the Martha Graham Dance Company. We are very proud to be the West Coast home of America’s oldest dance company.

Gratefully,

About Director Selects

The Director Selects series is a sequence of interviews shared by The Soraya on Fridays throughout the year. Each features an exclusive interview with an artist who will perform in the season or a behind-the-scenes video, and a note from Executive and Artistic Director Thor Steingraber. All is done to give patrons a look behind-the-curtain so they can better understand the collaboration between the artist and The Soraya that goes into each performance.
