The Soraya is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our beloved friend and longtime supporter, Joan Boyett, on August 4th.
Joan’s legacy at The Soraya is profound. She was a steadfast supporter from the earliest days of the venue—from the groundbreaking and construction of the building through its formative years. As the founding chair of The Soraya’s Ambassadors, Joan played a pivotal role in building a community of passionate supporters whose commitment has strengthened our mission from the very beginning.
Joan’s generosity, leadership, and unwavering belief in the importance of the arts and arts education left an enduring mark on The Soraya and on the many people who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her. She was a tireless volunteer and advocate for the arts at Cal State Northridge, serving as a member of the Mike Curb College’s Dean’s Circle and the 2013 Valley Performing Arts Center Gala Committee. She was also honored with a CSUN Volunteer Service Award in 2011.
Joan was a treasured part of The Soraya community. She was honored at our 2016 Gala featuring Wynton Marsalis, shared her reflections at our 10th Anniversary Gala, and attended hundreds of performances over the years. Her presence, enthusiasm, and love for the arts were woven into the life of this institution.
Joan’s passion for the arts extended far beyond The Soraya. For more than 50 years, she devoted her time, energy, and generosity to arts and arts education organizations and causes throughout Los Angeles. Her tireless volunteerism and advocacy touched the lives of countless young people, and her absence will be deeply felt across the community.
Our thoughts are with Joan’s family, her friends, and all of you who knew her as a cherished member of The Soraya family. We hope you will join us in remembering Joan’s remarkable life, her extraordinary generosity of spirit, and the lasting impact she made on The Soraya and our community.
