“Tim Burton has created a modern fairy tale that is as magical as it is melancholy, using a candy-colored suburbia to perfectly contrast Edward’s gentle soul.”

synopsis
Edward Scissorhands
Released in 1990 and directed by Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas), the film centers on Edward (Johnny Depp), a gentle artificial man with scissors for hands. Orphaned and unfinished by his creator, The Inventor (Vincent Price in his final role), Edward is left alone in a gloomy castle sitting high above a town. Discovered by Peg (Dianne Wiest), a warm-hearted Avon saleswoman, Edward leaves the only home he has known to live with Peg’s family in the town’s pastel suburban neighborhood. Edward’s innocent uniqueness makes him a sensation in the community until his popularity sparks jealousy that soon leads to suspicion and misunderstanding. Along the way, Edward develops a tender romance with Peg’s daughter Kim (Winona Ryder). Edward Scissorhands is celebrated for its poignant exploration of acceptance, enduring love, and the challenges of being misunderstood.
