Launched in the Fall of 2007, the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) program - inspired by Venezuela's visionary El Sistema that nurtured Gustavo Dudamel – is the LA Phil’s unprecedented initiative to establish youth orchestras in underserved communities throughout Los Angeles and with its community partners provide free instruments, intensive music training, and academic support to students, empowering them to become vital citizens, leaders, and agents of change.
In honor of YOLA’s 10th anniversary, and in alignment with the LA Phil’s West Coast tour to San Francisco and Seattle, the LA Phil will take the advanced YOLA orchestra of 80 students on tour across California for five days to four different cities. The 45-minute program, featuring works by Beethoven, Brahms and Dvorak, will also include a narrative and video component to illuminate the transformative power of music and community.
