This is the final Director Selects of the 23-24 Season. Throughout the year, we have spoken to artists from locations around the world and across many performance disciplines. These interviews are made just for you, and they are one of my favorite aspects of my job.
This final installment is among the most exciting. On May 11, we have two simultaneous major debuts at The Soraya – Pacific Jazz Orchestra, a new ensemble that is changing the landscape of live music in Los Angeles under the direction of Chris Walden, and Broadway and television star Aaron Tveit. When I first saw Aaron in Moulin Rouge on Broadway, I knew I wanted him to come to The Soraya, and since then, his work on stage and screen has catapulted him into becoming a household name. Chris and Aaron have created a playlist that covers a breadth of material. In this interview, Aaron shares some of the pieces they are performing and their thinking behind the choices.
Gratefully,
