About randy newman

Renowned for his versatile musical prowess, Randy Newman has left an indelible mark on generations of audiences with his poignant, satirical, and deeply moving compositions. While he won’t be physically present for the performance of ‘FAUST’ at The Soraya, his iconic work and original music will undoubtedly captivate audiences.

Embarking on his songwriting journey as a teenager, Newman made his mark as a recording artist with his self-titled album in 1968, paving the way for a prolific career spanning five decades. His discography boasts acclaimed albums such as ’12 Songs,’ ‘Sail Away,’ ‘Good Old Boys,’ ‘Little Criminals,’ ‘Born Again,’ ‘Trouble in Paradise,’ ‘Land of Dreams,’ and ‘Bad Love.’

In a seamless fusion of talent, Newman ventured into film composition in the 1980s, contributing his musical genius to an impressive array of movies including ‘Toy Story,’ ‘Monsters Inc.,’ ‘James and the Giant Peach,’ and ‘A Bug’s Life,’ among others.

Newman’s recent album ‘Dark Matter’ has been hailed as a convergence of his dual expertise, seamlessly blending his signature satirical style with cinematic orchestration. From the Grammy-winning track ‘Putin’ to insightful narratives about historical figures and existential themes, Newman’s storytelling prowess shines through.

Earning accolades aplenty, Newman’s mantle holds seven Grammys, three Emmys, and two Academy Awards, alongside a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His contributions to music were further honored with inductions into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, solidifying his status as a legendary figure in the industry.

Described by NPR as a ‘national treasure’ and lauded by the Chicago Tribune as one of the ‘best songwriters of the last half-century,’ Newman’s ability to craft vivid narratives within the confines of a song remains unparalleled.

In recognition of his lyrical excellence, Newman was bestowed with the PEN New England Song Lyrics of Literary Excellence Award in 2014, cementing his legacy as a master storyteller through music.
